Hi Susanna,
My husband and I were up in San Francisco two weeks ago and revisited a unique spot we had found three years ago. It's called The Wave Organ by the yacht club.
An artist put pipes into the ocean and built up little sitting areas with places to listen. As the tide goes in and out it causes sound echos to come up into the pipes.
He used grave stones from a dismantled graveyard to build this area and then added the left over ones to the jetty area.
This is where we hung the Winged Messenger. I hope it lasts for awhile and that boaters in the area will see it too.
While we were working on this a race was going on with sailors from all over the world. Really fun and exciting to watch. One man crew and very windy. I have several other pictures if you would like more. It was a fun day and we enjoyed deciding where to use our message.

Thank you for participating in my winged messenger project, Laurie. And thank you for introducing me to The Wave Organ. You're right - it is a unique spot to visit and revisit. It's uplifting when we come across a place like this and can imagine how the creators, Peter Richards and George Gonzalez, came up with the idea for it. There is an audio slide show about the wave organ at the Exploratorium's website.
