April 1, 2012: Perpetual Ocean

You may have already seen this video via Yahoo! but just in case you haven't...

 

It's fascinating!

Here are a few excerpts from Phil Tucker's article about Perpetual Ocean:

"[Perpetual Ocean], reminiscent of Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh’s famous painting, The Starry Night, is the product of NASA’s “Estimating the Circulation and Climate of the Ocean 2″ project or ECCO2 for short.

Perpetual Ocean shows the flow of ocean surface currents from June 2005 through to December 2007...

Earlier this year NASA successfully launched five suborbital sounding rockets from its Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia as part of its ATREX mission, a study of air currents in the upper atmosphere, potentially paving the way for a similar animation involving air currents."

December 28, 2011: New York Holiday Windows (Bergdorf Goodman)

Every hair, every feather, every wing on every animal and insect in this window was made of paper. It was stunning! There was so much to look at! The attention to detail was impressive and I can't imagine how long it must have taken the artists and designers at Bergdorf Goodman to create this scene. From the oohs and ahhs and the look-at-that!s coming from the crowd, this was one of the best holiday windows on 5th Avenue (and perhaps in all of New York) this year.
