By last Friday, I had slipped into melancholy. The grey skies and persistent rain and the worry that the river behind our apartment complex would spill over its banks again, not to mention the sight of piles of soggy insulation and mud-covered furniture that still sit in our parking lot, had finally gotten to me. I needed a break. I needed to get away and look at something beautiful.
So on Saturday, my good friend, Moe, and her good friend, Rose, and I drove down to Ocean Grove, New Jersey, to check out the town's Giant Fall Flea Market.

It was exactly what I needed.
Each year, the quaint little town of Ocean Grove hosts two flea markets - one in the spring and one in the fall. It is a good flea market with deals and steals to be had. Moe picked up a mid-century chair and Rose found an Italian leather purse from the same vendor. Now, if you wave hello at Moe sitting on her cool chair in the photo and then walk to the right for about three minutes, you'll be standing in sand and looking over the Atlantic Ocean. You're that close to the beach.
These are some of the flea market finds that caught my eye:

These lights reminded me of The Picker Sisters:

Have you seen the show yet? It's my current t.v. addiction. I think most of the stuff they re-purpose out of rusty bits and bobs are pretty darn cool. Plus, I get a kick out of the confused expressions on the country boys' faces when asked by the two Texas (Texan?) belles in short shorts and cowboy boots to envision a conference table made out of a rusty sheet of aluminum or track lighting out of a pesticide sprayer.
These are the two items that I couldn't pass up:

A big wooden tray with dove-tailing and an oval wooden frame that will look great with an encaustic painting in it.
